The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held the annual KIEP and Associations of Area Studies (KAAS) Conference, jointly hosted by 19 Associations of Area Studies, to expand the promotion of international area studies and strengthen economic cooperation with emerging economies.


This academic conference was a collaborative effort between the Korean Southeast Asian Studies Association and 19 other regional research associations, in partnership with the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP). A total of 63 papers were presented during the conference, with over 200 participants in attendance.


In the panel organized by the Korean Southeast Asian Studies Association, the following presentations were delivered, each focusing on a specific topic:

  1. Professor Moon Ki-hong of Pukyong National University presented on the Myanmar crisis.

  2. Editor-in-Chief Lee Han-woo discussed Vietnam's socioeconomic development, the importance of the private economic sector.

  3. Professor Lee Jin-young from Chonbuk National University explored the perspectives of Southeast Asian nations on the Indo-Pacific strategy.

The session was chaired by Professor Bae Ki-hyun of Sogang University's East Asian studies (SIEAS), who also serves as the Research Cooperation Director of the association. The discussion was enriched by the participation of the following panelists:

  1. Professor Park Jung-hoon (Pusan National University)

  2. Professor Roh Hyun-jong (Seoul National University Asia Center)

  3. Professor Park Min-jeong (Sookmyung Women's University)

This academic conference provided a platform for in-depth discussions and knowledge exchange on a diverse range of research topics related to Southeast Asia.
