On August 19, 2024, President Jeon Je Seong of the KASEAS visited the ASEAN University Network (AUN) office in Bangkok and met with Executive Director Choltis Dhirathiti. The AUN has a long history of collaboration with the KASEAS and serves as a key partner in the ASEAN-Korea Academic Exchanges Project, which the association has been working to revive since last year.
During their meeting, President Jeon discussed the journey of the project proposal that the KASEAS submitted to the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund (AKCF) over the past year. He explained that the proposal underwent three revisions based on feedback from the ASEAN-ROK Programme Management Team (AKPMT), and he provided detailed information about the most recent agreed-upon adjustments through written briefing materials.
Director Choltis welcomed the revised direction and content of the proposed project titled “ASEAN-Korea Academic Collaboration for Future Southeast Asianists.” He promised AUN would support efforts to launch the project by March next year. Both parties also expressed their commitment to achieving successful outcomes together and, eventually, expanding and deepening the project.
Despite the busy schedule just a day before the ASEAN Education Ministers' Meeting (AED) and the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Education (SOMED), President Jeon conveyed his gratitude to Director Choltis for taking the time to extend a warm welcome and for their shared commitment to moving forward together.
